Akshata, a small amount of rice mixed with turmeric powder and sometimes kumkum or flowers, serves several purposes. It is used as a offering to a Hindu deity, used as a way to receive blessings and/or in this particular instance, it was used to bless the bride and groom during their wedding ceremony. Ultimately, it signifies prosperity, fertility, and bounty.
