Summer Moon

It’s been a while since my last post. A few months passed swiftly with exam preparations. While my exams are still ongoing, I couldn’t resist attempting to capture and post a picture of yesterday’s beautiful, summer moon. This picture doesn’t do justice to the real thing, and the live sight reminded me of a beautiful and romantic Tamil song, by the name of, Vennilave Vennilave (Full Moon, O’ moon), from the movie Minsara Kannavu (Electrifying Dream.) This song is so gracefully choreographed and its lyrics pull at the heart’s strings. This song classically conveys the unspoken love between two individuals, where in the end of the song the two lovers realize how the beauty of this world should be utterly experienced only with the other. I love this song, and its subtle, and classic romance. Looking at yesterday’s moon, I was swept away in my own mid-summer dream.

Song Lyrics/Translation:

Vennilave Vennilave

Vennilavae vennilavae vinnaiththaandi varuvaayaa
Moon, o full moon, will you cross the skies and come
Vilaiyaada joadi thaevai
I need a pair to play with
Vennilavae vennilavae vinnaiththaandi varuvaayaa
Moon, o full moon, will you cross the skies and come
Vilayaada joadi thaevai (vennilavae)
I need a pair to play with
Indha booloagaththil yaarum paarkkum munnae
In this world, before anybody sees you
Unnai adhikaalai anuppi vaippoam (vennilavae)
I’ll send you back to where you came from
Idhu irullalla adhu oliyalla idhu rendoadum saeraadha ponnaeram (2)
This isn’t night, its not that day, its the time in between both
Thalai saayaadhae vizhi moodaadhae sila mottukkal sattenru poovaagum
Don’t lean your head, don’t close your eyes, some buds will suddenly blossom into flowers
Pennae…pennae…
Girl, oh girl
Booloagam ellaamae thoongippoana pinnae
After everyone in the world goes to sleep
Pulloadu poomeedu oasai kaetkum pennae
You can hear the sound of the grass colliding with the flowers, girl
Naam iravin madiyil pillaigal aavoam paalootta nilavundu
We’ll become children in the lap of the night, the moon is there to feed us milk
(vennilavae)
Ettaadha uyaraththil nilavai vaiththavan yaaru
Who put the moon far away where we can’t reach?
Kaiyoadu sikkaamal kaatrai vaiththavan yaaru
Who put wind that we can’t catch in our hands?
Idhai enni enni iyarkaiyae viyakkiraen
Thinking of this, I try to explain nature
Ettaadha uyaraththil nilavai vaiththavan yaaru
Who put the moon far away where we can’t reach?
Pennae…pennae
Girl, oh girl
Poongaatru ariyaamal poovaith thirakka vaendum
I want to open the flowers without knowing the wind
Pookooda ariyaamal thaenai rusikka vaendum
I want to relish the honey without knowing the flowers too
Ada ulagai rasikka vaendum naan un poanra pennoadu
I want to cherish the world with a girl like you.
